NMIX 4210 | New Media Industries
Date: Spring 2022
New Media Industries is a weekly seminar that explores new media technologies, industry trends, and the secret to getting a J-O-B. Students are introduced to new media professionals who share their insights and experiences.
In New Media Industries, I learned diversely from various industry professionals and New Media Institute almuni. This pushed the boundaries of what I once believed was possible as an advertising student completing a masters degree focused on new media. Hearing first-hand accounts and experiences of what it was like working advertising agencies vs larger corporations vs freelance allowed me to better understand what routes I will take and what skills I will incorporate into my future career path.
Though our wonderful instructors Megan Ward and Dakota Werner, I was able to walk away with a strong, personalized education that will help me in non-traditional ways in my career. I would describe this class as one on “How to be a good adult and professional.” There was a myriad of things to take away from this class through our Professional Development projects such as Digital Identity where we analyzed our online presence, or our first assignment Business Cards where we designed and submitted personalized business cards to hand out and connect with guest speakers and others.
